Il Castello di Donnafugata. This small village has very ancient origins, in fact it dates back to the late ancient times – early Middle Ages. Its name, which is also the district’s name, is of Arabic origin – Ayn as jafât – and means source of health, and through dialectal transpositions has become Donnafugata. Local legends would have the name attributed to various events having to do with women who were kidnapped or had run away – the most famous being the story of Bianca of Navarra who would have been kidnapped by Count Cabrera who had been refused by her |
