Palazzolo Acreide.
– One of the more characteristic towns in the Iblean territory where ancient Greek archaeology fascinatingly and harmoniously blends with the late-baroque buildings. Palazzolo is the town of traditions, which are above all symbolised by its religious festivities, in particular Saint Paul and Saint Sebastian. There is also a very interesting ethno-anthropologic museum, the “A. Uccello Museum” which has rebuilt cultural Sicilian environments, objects and traditions that go back to the 1800’s. Its ancient Greek theatre is a smaller version of the one in Siracusa and holds an annual programme of classic plays performed by students from all of Europe.

La Valle dell'Anapo.
"The
river with crystal clear water" – The valley is made
up of a canyon in which two rivers flow through the
thick vegetation at its bottom and in whose white rock
walls the Siculi, the prehistoric Sicilians, dug 5,000
tombs before the Iron Age. This is Pantalica, the
biggest pre-historic necropolis of all Europe, which was
proclaimed part of UNESCO’s World Heritage list in 2005. |
